Barang Street Kitchen is currently cooking Cambodian at South London Louie, the cafe in the South London Gallery in Camberwell, SE5, Thursday to Saturday evenings until 22nd December 2023.
I visited on Thursday - the first night - and loved the food. I've been following chef Tom's progress for most of the year, through different pop-ups, events, and a supper club series at his home, but this was the first time I have eaten his food.
Tom fell in love with the cuisine on his first visit to Cambodia in 2017 & 2018, and has developed a menu that includes both grills - like the slow grilled chicken thigh, with Tuk Merik dipping sauce, and the aromatic & sour sausage - plus bigger plates like curries - I had the very fiery Kampot pepper curry w smoked pork cheek - full of fire, thanks to a mix of chillis and pepper 🌶 . Very fiery! 🔥🔥🔥
It's a great menu, and a great intro to Cambodian food. Lots of flavour, and lots of heat, if you want it!
When - Thurs-Sat evenings until 22nd December 2023
Where - South London Louie, the cafe inside the South London Gallery, 67 Peckham Rd, London SE5 8UH
Bookings - at South London Louie here
