Lawrence Gomez' Papa L's Kitchen is popping up at 16-17 Jermyn Street, just south of Piccadilly for the summer, serving an African Fusion menu Tuesday to Saturday evenings. This follows a very successful pop-up in SW5 last year, and before. Lawrence has worked at some of London's best restaurants, including The Ivy, Sexy Fish and Scott’s in Mayfair, so prepare to be impressed!
"Following the sell-out successes of PAPA L’s KITCHEN Summer and Autumn menus, Executive Chef and Founder – Lawrence Gomez, is back from July 1st 2021 with his exclusive “African Fusion Cuisine.”
PAPA L’s KITCHEN pop-up restaurant will provide a unique fine dining experience in the heart of the iconic Jermyn Street, SW1.
Along with African Fusion Cuisine which is Chef Lawrence describes as his ‘culture and career on a plate’, the restaurant will be a rich celebration of African countries and diaspora through art, ambience, music, vibe, energy, creating a truly social dining experience.
Food, flavours and company will not be rushed, with Gomez refusing to turn tables after a set amount of time so that guests can enjoy a leisurely and sociable dining experience.
The menu includes a wide variety of delicious dishes, such as PAPA L’s signature grilled king tiger prawns (the secret recipe will only be revealed if you retire his great grandchildren!) Ma’s Benachin rice, dedicated to Gomez’s mother, and also a recipe passed down from her is a national dish from Gambia. The Tempura Kanja is a very popular vegetable in Gambia and across Africa and diaspora, Gomez uses a tempura method and is dedicated to his time working in Sexy Fish. Other dishes include the dover sole fillet, a favourite of the Jermyn Street locals, as well as being one of Gomez’s favourites and the Papa Lova a take on Pavlova, Eton mess-style with his signature raspberry coulis.
All signature dishes are unique, due to Gomez, highly-secret marinades and sauces."
