Flat Earth, one of my favourite residencies from 2019, is back for 2020 with a new residency at The Plough in Homerton High Street, E9, serving Thursdays to Saturdays. Flat earth serve delicious pizzas, with a regularly changing menu, featuring chef Rich's wild, foraged and pickled ingredients. See you there!
"Following on from a successful 6 month residency at The Hive in Bethnal Green, Flat Earth Pizzas are relocating to The Plough in Hackney, starting Friday 31st January.
Rich Baker and Sarah Brading launched Flat Earth in July 2019 and, since opening, have achieved various successes, such as being named as first runner up to the Sustainable Lifestyle Awards ‘Restaurant of the Year’, supporting 4 different charities, featuring in Metro’s ‘top 3 finest pop ups’ roundup, and collaborating with various artisan and independent producers from dairy free cheese makers, artists and florists, supporting young businesses like themselves.
Flat Earth’s charm lies in the seasonally rotating unique, meat-free flavour profiles using high quality ingredients, redefining and introducing their guests to a new style of pizza lightyears away from the ubiquitous toppings. The dough is the masterpiece: using a mix of E5 Bakehouse and Gilchester’s organic heritage grain flours, both packed with fibre, aiding better digestion. This type of flour hasn’t been refined or contaminated with pesticides. The super fresh and zingy passata is made by fermenting tomatoes from Dagenham Farm, part of social enterprise, Growing Communities. Flat Earth also make lots of gut-healthy pickles and ferments which are added to the pizzas.
The menu will include delights such as their take on a classic Ploughman’s pizza with blue cheese and pickles; one with foraged nettles transformed into pesto with wild leaves, toasted walnuts, Wildes’ cheese and elderberry balsamic; a house kimchi fiorentina complete with runny egg, and another with creamy garlic mushrooms, tarragon and pickled oyster mushrooms. Vegan cheese made by Kinda Co exclusively for Flat Earth is always available. Alongside Flat Earth’s famous chocolate brownie made by local baker, Cake or Death, there will also be the introduction of East London’s finest pastéis de nata."
