For Starters is a new supper club, created by chef Scott Perkins and theatre practitioner Cassandra O'Reilly, is holding a six course supper club upstairs at The Joker of Penton St, near to Angel station, on Friday 23rd August 2019. Titled Ode to the British Showman, it is a celebration of classic street food from stalls at British travelling fairs of yesteryear. "For Starters was established when a visionary chef and an ambitious theatre practitioner united through their fierce passion for seeking unique dining experiences. Combing their joint interests of food and theatre, chef director, Scott Perkins and theatre practitioner Cassandra O’Reilly created for starters, to offer three bespoke dining experiences; flavour, sensation and experience.
Sensation marries together refined dining and narrative-led concepts. Each menu is fuelled by research and context to provide an unforgettable experience. Our supper clubs were developed for you, the diner to be immersed into a journey through food whilst engaging all of your senses to create a multisensory dining experience like no other. Chef director Scott Perkins uses his vast industry experience gained whilst working in Michelin star restaurants and large-scale events. This enables him to create and design innovative menus to compliment the history and culture of each event. Scott’s aim is to challenge the diner’s perception of flavour whilst plating flavoursome dishes that stimulate a reaction through sight, sound, smell, touch and taste.

Ode to the British Showman – the travelling shows or fun fairs as we know them, date back to the 14th century and have now become a staple part of the great British summer. Our menu is inspired by traditional food stalls found at English travelling fairs served in a modern and untraditional way. Roll up, roll up and expect the unexpected..."
