Celebrate The Feast of St George at Borough Market

Borough Market is celebrating St Geoge's Day with a festival on Sunday 22nd April 2018, including food, theatre, a maypole, and lots of other events, befitting the man who was patron saint of butchers, shepherds and farmers.  It'll be open from 12 noon til 4pm, and should be a wonderful occasion for all the family!

"Join us on Sunday 22nd April for a family-friendly day filled with food, music, storytelling and theatre, celebrating the influence Saint George has had around the world.
His cross is on our flag and we have claimed the day of his death as our national day, but it would be a stretch to claim Saint George as our own. In fact, this Turkish-born Roman soldier is patron saint not only of countries ranging from England and Lithuania to Ethiopia and Catalonia but of butchers, shepherds and farmers too!
Join us from 12-4pm on Sunday 22nd April to celebrate Saint George in all his incarnations.
Here you will get the opportunity to sample unique St George’s day products from our regular traders, as well as marvel at the things on offer from some of our special guests too. This includes a performance of George and the Dragon from local theatre group the Lion’s Part, a dance around the maypole as you may never have seen it before from Folk Dance Remixed and the construction of a human tower from the Castellers of London. Not only that, but we'll also be joined by the National Farmer's Union who'll be bringing their interactive Discovery Barn along, where children can explore a series of games including; The Minute Milk Challenge featuring much loved 'Annabelle' the dairy cow, and a interactive Farm Tour Tractor Experience.
As if that wasn’t enough, Borough regular Luke Mackay will be joining us at the Demo Kitchen, along with Dom from trader Northfield Farm, for free cooking demonstrations highlighting meat and butchery. The culmination of ‘The St George Residency’, a month of special Demo Kitchens being held at Borough throughout April, these will run from 12-1.30pm and 2-3.30pm and the first will be BSL signed.
Whether he’s your patron saint or not, the multicultural sounds, smells and tastes of St George’s Day are not to be missed!"
