Brew By Numbers & Howard's Meat Co's Sunday BBQ near Bermondsey

On Sunday 2nd August Brew by Numbers Brewery in Enid Street, SE16, is holding a big barbecue with Howard's Meat Co & their meat smoker.  Tickets cost £25 each and for that you'll get a huge amount of BBQ meat to share at the table - brisket, belly pork and lamb with sides tbc - and some dessert, plus your first beer to start you off.  It's at Brew By Numbers railway arch near to Druid St & Maltby St, and is open from 2pm, - 7pm, but they won't rush you - this is a friendly, relaxed Sunday BBQ.

"Everyone knows that beer and barbecue is pretty much a perfect combination.
And beer, barbecue and a Sunday afternoon - even better.
We’ve invited the guys from Howard’s Meat Co. down to the brewery to serve some of their slow cooked meats alongside our brewery fresh beers.
The draught beers will have been chosen to match the food being served up, and we’ll have a fridge full of bottles to take home with you.
After studying under one of the best pit bosses in Austin (and thus the world), Howard’s Meat Co have been building a following around London for their meats smoked the Central Texas way. That means using a 10ft 100% wood fired smoker, 16 hour cooks, a lot of pepper and ensuring that the chef drinks a few beers along the way.
Like barbecue, Sunday afternoons should never be rushed. We aren’t interested in turning tables, or serving crowds of people. Therefore, we are doing a single seating allowing people to linger, enjoy some great food and beers, and chat to the people behind the products being offered. The tables will be in the middle of the brewhouse, and staff will be on hand to show you around.
We’ll keep the bar open after lunch, and most likely join you in a few beers.
The menu has been designed around a family style Sunday lunch, with trays of meats and sides presented to the table to share. There will be something sweet to finish off with, and your first beer will be on us.
If you’re coming with a group but booking tickets separately email sarah@brewbynumbers.com so that we can ensure that you’re all sat together. If you have any dietary requirements, please get in touch to discuss before booking tickets."

Where - Brew by Numbers, 79 Enid Street, SE16 3RA

The Porterlight Bicycles Possibility Shop in Covent Garden

Porterlight, the cargo bicycle company, has won Appear Here's competition to win a pop-up shop in Covent Garden.  The store will open on Tuesday 11th August, and will run for two weeks, with regular evening talks on subjects like Technology, advanture and cycling.

"For two weeks beginning August 11th we're going to be opening the doors of The Porterlight Bicycles Possibility Shop, in Covent Garden.
The space was won through a pop up show competition for start-ups. Porterlight Bicycles is a company founded this year after taking the plunge of quitting my day job, and cycling my prototype cargo bike on a 5,000km test ride from Romania to Kazakhstan.
What has really struck me during this whole process of building my bicycle from scratch, riding unsupported all the way to the Chinese border, and now having a shop in Covent Garden is the sense of possibility. I plan to use this shop to get other people inspired about, and engaged with the world of possibilities there are out there.
I really admire and have been inspired by people who have taken a risk, and made a change to explore the dreams and possibilities that they discovered in the world. Now I'm keen to share the same sense of possibility and inspiration that I've discovered through talks and events on these subjects, with visitors to my shop. I will be curating mixture of free evening talks, video screenings, and events based around the theme of possibility from the worlds of Adventure, Entrepreneurship, Cycling, and Technology.
The evenings talks are:
13th August - Public Launch Night
15th August - Entrepreneurship
18th August - Technology
20th August - Cycling
22nd August - Adventure"

When - Tues 11th - Mon 24th August 2015

Where - Porterlight Bicycles' Possibility Shop, 13 Floral St, Covent Garden, WC2E 9DH

Cinnamon Kitchen & Pizza Pilgrims' 5 Day Collaboration near Liverpool Street

Venison pickle with red onion
This is a great collaboration - for five days only, Monday 3rd - Friday 7th August, Cinnamon Kitchen & Pizza Pilgrims will be serving a range of Indian-inspired pizzas from outside Cinnamon Kitchen, near Liverpool street.  A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be invited to taste the pizzas at an early stage, and they were off the scale - they all worked so well.
Pizzas will include -
Tandoori chicken, green chilli and  cheese;
Cauliflower and green peas ‘Bhujia’ (V);
Venison pickle with red onion;
Lamb Rogan  Josh calzone
They've got to be tasted to be believed!

Lamb Rogan Calzone
"Slice meets spice for one week only at Cinnamon Kitchen this summer, as Executive Chef Vivek Singh and Pizza Pilgrims team up to create an exclusive range of Indian inspired pizzas, twisting the classic Italian treat with a tantalising taste of the tandoor.
Pizza Pilgrims will be popping up on Cinnamon Kitchen’s alfresco terrace, over the road from Liverpool Street station  from 3rd – 7th August, serving the new East-meets-West creations from their famous Piaggio van, noon ‘til 9pm daily.
Naples will collide with New Delhi as hand-stretched pizza bases are topped with Tandoori chicken, green chilli and  cheese; cauliflower and green peas ‘Bhujia’ (V); venison pickle with red onion; and lamb Rogan  Josh calzone, before  being blasted in the formidable inAvan oven. All pizzas are £8 – the perfect lunchtime treat or early evening snack.
While their traditional dishes may seem worlds apart, Cinnamon Kitchen and Pizza Pilgrims might not be so different  after all. For starters, the Pilgrims’ oven can hit a staggering high of 500 degrees, around about the same temperature  at which Cinnamon Kitchen naans are cooked in the tandoor. Throw in a shared ethos championing the freshest, high-quality ingredients and the fact that the Pilgrims’ van bears more than a passing resemblance to the Tuk Tuks of the  subcontinent, and the pairing looks like a stroke of flavour-fusing genius  It’s not all about the food though. A host of classic Italian tipples are also undergoing a spice transformation, including the  Ginger  Negroni  (£8)  with  homemade  galangal  ginger  juice,  Martini  Rosso,  Campari  and plum  wine; and  the  Pococello  Spicy  Spritz  (£9)  using  Pizza  Pilgrims’  own  brand  of  Limoncello, lychee  juice  and  cracked  black  pepper, topped with Prosecco.
A culture clash of  the best kind,  this collaboration between  two of  the London  food world’s biggest hitters won’t be around for long, so be sure to try the scene’s hottest new slice before it’s too late"

The Platfrom 1 'Permanent Pop-up' Restaurant in East Dulwich

Platform 1 (formerly called Pussey Liquor) is a new 'permanent pop-up' at 71 Lordship Lane, East Dulwich, with chefs rotating every 4 months, so essentially a new pop-up 3 times a year.  From November 2015 - March 2016 Perilla will be in the kitchen serving from Wednesday - Sunday.

"A lot of you may be wondering what Pussey Liquor is with such a risqué name. Well let us tell you it isn't what you may think! PL is a permanent pop-up restaurant on a 4month kitchen rotation set in the heart of East Dulwich.
Local girl, Chloe Gounder-Forbes, has built a platform for up and coming chefs to devise and lay out their own menus along with establishing a name for themselves.
Perilla is a London dining pop-up founded by Ben Marks (NOMA, The Square) and Matt Emmerson (Polpo, Polpetto). After previous success Perilla is launching a 4-month residency at Platform 1 wine bar in East Dulwich, starting 10th November. Located on Lordship Lane the wine bar has an informal neighbourhood vibe. In partnership with Adam McGurk (Hawksmoor) Perilla is taking over the cocktail bar with its botanical gin cocktails."

Oded Oren's One Night Mediterranean Pop-up at The Common Cafe in E2

Chef Oded Oren is hosting a night of Mediterranean food at the Common Cafe in Old Bethnal Green Road, E2 on Thursday 30th July.  Featuring pizza, and small plates like sea bass carpaccio, dishes will typically cost £7 or £8.  Go and try some of Oren's dishes!

"The Common E2 will be holding its first evening event hosted by chef Oded Oren. Taking place on Thursday 30th July, The Common will re-open its doors at 6pm for an evening that will include delicious modern Mediterranean food such as spinach, feta & za’atr sour dough pizza, sea bass carpaccio with smoked cherry tomatoes and sour cream and other goodies. A selection of locally brewed craft beers, wines and cocktails will also be on the menu.
Oded’s style of cooking is influenced by the multicultural nature of his hometown Tel-Aviv. His food is honest– it is based on natural robust flavours. The Notting Gill Pop-up Fish & Chip Shop at Kensington Place W8

This summer, Kensington Place restaurant in Kensington Church Street W8, is opening a fish and chip shop next to the main restaurant (& the location of their 'FishBone' pop-up in early 2014).  Open Tuesday - Saturday, it will feature such wonders as Lobster Thermi-Bun, a savoury doughnut deliciously crammed with velvety lobster thermidor sauce, Curried-Spiced Batter Fish & Chips with mango chutney and lentil dahl, as well as more traditional fish & chips.  It's only open until the 29th August Extended until 24th Spetember - don't miss it!

"From 1st to 29th August 2015, Kensington Place will open The Notting Gill Chippy, the restaurant’s very first fish and chips pop-up. Located on Kensington Church Street, adjacent to the main restaurant, the pop-up will tempt Londoners and tourists alike with Chef Tim Peirson’s novel interpretations of the best loved of British classics alongside old-fashioned fish and chips dishes.
Surfing the trend of new-wave chippies, Chef Tim will raise the ‘indulgence’ bar by introducing the Lobster Thermi-Bun, a savoury doughnut deliciously crammed with velvety lobster thermidor sauce. The menu includes inventive dishes such as Bitter & Twisted Scampi, freshly made with whisky-cask-matured Harviestoun Brewery golden ale to boost the batter’s flavour, and Curried-Spiced Batter Fish & Chips with mango chutney and lentil dahl.
Traditionalists can opt for Classic Fish & Chips with tartare sauce and mushy peas as well as Fish Finger Butty with Spicy Ketchup, in between Consommarys and White Snappers - the pop-up signature cocktails - made with Chase smoked vodka and Chase Gin, respectively.
Draft beer aficionados will quench their thirst with Harviestoun Schiehallion lager and Bitter and Twisted ale.
The Notting Gill Chippy also offers a twist on your normal fish and chips accompaniments.
To make the experience all the more authentic, the menu features Poppy and Rye Sourdough with Seaweed Butter as well as Baby Pickles – baby onions, cornichons and quail eggs presented in vintage-looking Kilner jars.
The pop-up venue, charmingly decorated in a palette of maritime-inspired colours, will provide indoor seating space. Those who prefer to eat on the hoof, on their way to Portobello market or Kensington Gardens, can just order all the fishy goodness to take away."
