Casa Sabor's Salvador da Bahia Pop-Up near Old Street

Latin American food experts Casa Sabor are back with a 3 day pop-up in mid May, at the wonderful Ozone Coffee Roasters building in Leonard Street, EC2.  This time it's focussing on Brazil's regional capital Salvador Da Bahia with a five course dinner including some modern takes on Brazilian classics.  Plus live music!  It runs from Thurs 8th - Sat 10th - all the booking links you need are below.

"Casa Sabor’s next pop-up, in a new venue around Old Street, will celebrate the food of Brazil and the regional capital Salvador Da Bahia.  A five course menu will cover some of the classics, but also some dishes that would be classed as Modern Brazilian Cuisine, featuring traditional local ingredients cooked in a less traditional manner to emphasise respect for the ingredients, flavoursome contrasts, and healthy balance in what we eat.  We’ll be using all the techniques of the modern kitchen, and to some extent ‘deconstructing’ traditional dishes, to highlight the flavours of fresh fish and seafood, as well as high quality meats, fruit and vegetables.
The evening will be a feast for the ears too!  Bahia is central to Brazil’s music scene. Many of the giants hail from this northeastern state — Caetano Veloso, Tom Zé, Gal Costa, Maria Bethania, Carlinhos Brown, and João Gilberto, the founder of bossa nova. Not forgetting, of course, Olodum, the Afro-Brazilian group featured on Paul Simon’s Rhythm of the Saints.
We are delighted that Ozone Coffee Roasters cafe will be the venue for our next pop-up. The owners are part of the new generation of very serious coffee aficionados and they are lighting up London with really great coffee.
This is fantastic for me as a ‘native’ of the coffee region of Colombia – even though I’ve been living in London for more than twenty years now, I keep my close ties by running our family coffee farm by ‘remote control’ from the heart of Islington! Whilst we can’t (yet) serve you coffee sourced from my own family’s farm, we’re confident that you won’t be disappointed by what Ozone have to offer after dinner."

When - Thursday 8th - Saturday 10th May, from 7pm

Where - Ozone Coffee Roasters, 11 Leonard Street , EC2A 4AQ

Tickets - £39 from Eventbrite here

The 'Lucky Juice' Pop-up Vending Machine in Shoreditch

This spring there's a juice vending machine with a difference in the window of ad agency Weiden+Kennedy in Hanbury Street, just by the Truman Brewery.  Insert three pound coins, and have a spin to get a mystery bottle of delicious juice.  It's open 9am - 5pm every day until 9th May.

"Juice bars have been popping up all over the city in recent years, but one of London’s most vibrant areas seems to have missed the fruit party train. Shoreditch’s fresh juice scene is mighty quiet in comparison to Soho’s, and this fact has come to the attention of two juice craving creatives at London advertising agency Wieden+Kennedy. Enter Laurie Howell and Toby Treyer-Evans, who have worked on campaigns for many of W+K’s clients including Honda and D&AD. With summer on the horizon, the pair have taken matters into their own hands by creating a giant game that lets luck decide the ingredient of you juice - transporting one of South London's hottest spots Ali Baba Juice + Matcha from Peckham’s Rye Lane to the agency’s own E1 postcode.
Lucky Juice, which launches on Wednesday 16th  April, is a fresh take on the pop up concept. The Lucky Juice machine will dispense special blends to passers by via a colourful game of chance. Visitors simply insert 3 x £1 coins into the machine (conceived by Treyer-Evans and Howell with graphics by Sam Coldy, animations by Hans Lo and photography/film by Oskar Proctor) in exchange for a spin.
Every spin is a winner, but luck will decide the fresh and fruity results – animated spinning wheels pick a combination of three sometimes surprising ingredients – which are hand delivered through the window in a glass bottle.
The Ali Baba Juice +Matcha crew are powering Lucky Juice. They will open up shop in the agency's 16 Hanbury Street office window space for three weeks, where they’ll be juicing their amazing concoctions daily and delivering them to the public with a playful twist in the arcade-inspired fruit machine. The Lucky Juice machine will be open from 9am-5pm 7 days a week, from 17th April - 9th May.
With visuals inspired by fruit machine imagery, the installation puts a fun new spin on making a healthy choice. All juices are made from 100% natural ingredients and blended fresh at the Shoreditch location each day. Fans can share the juicy fun by tagging @wkluckyjuice on Instagram and Twitter, and highlights during the pop up will be posted on a dedicated Tumblr hosted at http://wkluckyjuice.tumblr.com"

When - 17th April - 9th May, 9am - 5pm

Where -  16 Hanbury Street, E1 6QR

The pop up shack will take over Festival Village, a space hidden away underneath the Queen Elizabeth Hall and built by volunteers and local communities.
Popular W1 Indian Street Kitchen, Roti Chai, has been invited back by Southbank Centre following the success of their pop up at Alchemy last year. Alchemy is Southbank Centre’s annual festival celebrating the culture of the Indian subcontinent, including music, design, dance, comedy and, of course, food. The festival takes place for 10 days in May (16 - 26 May 2014), offering a range of both ticketed and free events.
Roti Chai founder, Rohit Chugh, and his team have created a special menu for the Shack featuring ‘soul food’ chaats, street-inspired chilli chicken buns, traditional masala chai and Monsoon Malabar coffee. All perfect for lunch, afternoon tiffin or with a relaxing drink or two at the end of the day.
The Roti Chai team have also put together a Shack drinks list featuring cocktails with an Indian twist including Berry Bourbon, Kovalam Beach Kick and the Alchemy Gin-Ji as well as Indian favourites of Kingfisher beer and Mango Frooti.
The Chaat Shack & Chai Bar will be open daytime and evenings to all visitors to Southbank Centre and to Alchemy artists & attendees alike.  It will share the Festival Village with Design Wallah, a pop-up shop showcasing South Asian design, presented in association with Shake The Dust."

The House of Peroni's May 2014 Residency in Lincoln's Inn Fields

The 2014 House of Peroni opens in Lincoln'sInn Fields on 2nd of May, to run the entire month.   The House will bring the new wave of Italian creative talent from the worlds of food, drink, fashion and design to the capital, inspired by 1963; a transformative year when Italian style became renowned across the world and the year that Carlo Peroni created Peroni Nastro Azzurro.

"Guests are invited to explore four floors featuring specially-commissioned artworks by Italian designers, artists and architects and to relax at one of three beautifully designed bars offering exciting infused drinks.
The House will also feature a stunning third floor restaurant, where guests can taste the evolution of Italian food with a bespoke menu by culinary collective Bottega Wapping, as well as a convivial terrace with an outdoor bar serving Peroni Nastro Azzurro and a bespoke drinks menu by the resident mixologist.
Throughout the month, The House will feature an exciting weekly schedule of stylish Italian events which will include:
Dining in Multicolour:  Inspired by the explosion in colour photography of 1963 - the year Polaroid began manufacturing colour film - this unique dining experience is a sensory extravaganza of stimulating flavour and colour. The entire room, right down to the cutlery, will be a dizzying rainbow of multicolour and will form the backdrop to an equally colourful feast prepared by The House of Peroni’s resident chefs Bottega Wapping, whose inspiration for the menu derives from the Red Green Blue model of colour used in photography and electronic systems.
The Art of Gelato: Discover the surprising history of Italian dessert, Gelato, in this artisan-led masterclass. From the ancient sorbettiera to the latest machine technology, the makers of GINO Gelato will teach you all there is to know about the famed frozen dessert. Put your newly learned skills to work as you create some of your own and take the chance to taste innovative flavours including Olive Oil & Parmesan, and Tiramisu.
Italian Brunch Club: Enjoy a leisurely brunch at The House of Peroni on Saturdays. Taste classic Italian dishes reworked with a modern twist, such as the Uova alla Napoletana or traditional baked eggs cooked with ham, stracchino, spring onions and paprika, while sipping a selection of innovative Peroni Nastro Azzurro infused drinks. While you relax with friends, you’ll be entertained by a hand-picked selection of live bands and DJs.
Alfresco Feast & Italo-beats: Experience premium Italian street food vendors combining the best of fine dining with a laid-back street food approach on the beautiful terrace at The House of Peroni in associated with Urban Food Fest. A selection of DJs will provide backdrop of remixed classic Italian beats. Don’t miss your chance to try dishes such as nettle gnocchi with blue cheese sauce and osso buco or braised veal shank richly seasoned in herbs.
Modern Vintage: Create Your Own Silk Scarf: Inspired by the timeless chic of Sophia Loren, this design masterclass looks back at the history of the Italian printed silk scarf, the designers that popularised it, and the women that made them iconic culminating in guests creating their own 100% silk crepe de chine scarf with a bespoke design.
Become an Italian Barista: The House of Peroni, in association with Lavazza, will deliver this authentic Italian coffee experience where guests will learn the origins of coffee and enjoy a tasting session with different beans and blends covering all the classics from velvety cappuccinos to intense espressos."

Smokey Tails Summer 2014 BBQ in Hackney Wick

Update - No further posts from Smokey Tails on Facebook or Twitter as of Weds 30th April, so I'm assuming that this isn't going ahead.  More details when I hear them.

Smokey Tails, the Thursday-Sunday pop-up in Hackney Wick, specialising in smoked meats & frozen cocktails, returns on Thursday 1st May 2014. It's created by from DJ Seth Troxler, and details are pretty sparce at the moment - just the date really - but check back nearer the time for more.

2013's listing - details likely to be similar
"A riverside hideaway, a wooden-decked sun-trap boasting exquisite smoked meats, sublime salads, knock-out frozen cocktails and mighty fine deserts
The restaurant is the brainchild of six collaborators, all well qualified in fun, including internationally renowned DJ Seth Troxler and his partner Ryan Crosson (Visionquest) together with Jo Vidler from Secret Productions - the team behind the award winning Secret Garden Party and Wilderness plus Ben Pound from Futureline Productions who is behind the production and design of Paradise Ibiza and Circo Loco events.
Smokey Tails is based at London E9′s Container Yard, 119 Wallis Road and is reminiscent of Berlin's Club der Visionaere. It will be open Thursday to Sunday for the rest of the summer serving up exquisite smoked meats, sublime salads, knock-out frozen cocktails, independent guest ales and mighty fine desserts. The name is a fusion inspired by the smokey meats cooking on the BBQ and the abundance of cocktails on offer – people will not be disappointed.
There will also be the chance to try Seth Troxler’s barbecue sauce which has been passed down from his grandfather and developed over the years when ingredients were added with each generation. The sauce is currently being developed in the USA and this is the only place in the UK where people can taste it.
DJ Seth Troxler says “Myself and Ryan grew up in Detroit and have been smoking and barbecuing in between spinning records and producing for years – our dream was to open a restaurant bar. When Ben from Futureline found this space we knew it had a lot of potential and hey presto, Smokey Tails was born.""

When - Thursday - Sunday
Thursday - 1pm Snacks, dinner from 6pm, Close midnight
Friday, Saturday, Sunday 11am - midnight

Spoon Cereals' Two Week Pop-up Shop at Old Street Station

On Monday 21st April Spoon Cereals opens a pop-up shop at Old Street station (Mainline / Northern Line) to sell cereals to locals and commuters for two weeks.  See below for info on competitions etc, and lease support them.

"Spoon Cereals is a new breakfast cereal company with the aim to give busy people a more adventurous bowl of cereal, just the way they like it.  We can’t wait to take our cereal mixes and our latest fresh take-out pots, made to order, to the launch of the Old Street Station pop up event.  We want to give sleep- and breakfast-deprived commuters a healthy and tasty cereal on their way to work and what better location than “Silicon Roundabout”?
We’re particularly excited about our new Old Street granola recipe, which we have decided to keep quiet until the launch.  To coincide with this, we’ve thrown in a competition for you guys. Simply tweet @spooncereals your guess as to what our new flavour may be for the chance to receive a free month’s supply personally delivered to your place of work or home.
“I can safely say that I am one of those cereal enthusiasts who will eat a bowl at any time of the day. I love making my own mixes but finding something similar on my way to work was near impossible. I look forward to breakfast every morning and so wanted to give other people something to look forward to as well.”  Annie Morris
“The area around Old Street is a busy, vibrant and boundary-pushing community, which is why we felt that it would be the perfect place to set-up for Spoon. Our cereals and toppings are adventurous, energy-filled and packed with wholesome ingredients and we think the commuters and residents alike will love them to start their day. ”  Jonny Shimmin"

Edible Cinema Presents Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet at BAFTA in Piccadilly

Edible Cinema is back - and in a bigger space so more people can enjoy it.  Edible Cinema is a unique experience blending food, drinks and films.  As you arrive you've given a tray with numbered packages.  At certain points in the film a number flashes up, telling you it;s time to eat or drink that particular item.  It's previously been in smaller places like the Aubin Cinema or the Electrc, but now it's at Bafta at 195 Piccadilly, with 4 performances over the May Day weekend, so more people can enjoy it.  The film this time is Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet - get involved!

"This May, Edible Cinema and BOMBAY SAPPHIRE® will once again team up for screenings of Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet at BAFTA 195 Piccadilly, the prestigious West End home of the British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA).  Due to the phenomenal success of previous screenings, Edible Cinema will be shown for the first time at the renowned BAFTA venue, as it moves from the Electric Cinema on Portobello Road.
Guests will be treated to an edible adventure through the film, where experiences will range from a ‘tongue sandwich’ as Romeo and Juliet share their first kiss, to a mini vial of ‘poison’ as the film reaches it’s epic climax.  As guests take their seats, the divided room will become apparent with one side Capulets and the other Montagues. Each side will receive different cocktails, inspired by the two families. While the “Capulet” combines BOMBAY SAPPHIRE, lime, pineapple and orange juice, cherry heering and angostura bitters; the “Montague” combines BOMBAY SAPPHIRE, lemon juice, orgeat syrup, orange flower water and soda. Both drinks have similar citrus notes highlighting the fact that although the families have their differences at their heart they are the same.
The first of its kind, Edible Cinema is a collaboration between Soho House chef Jake Rigby Wilson, Soho House events manager Zoe Paterson, renowned experience organiser Polly Betton, BOMBAY SAPPHIRE mixologist Sean Ware, who are all joined by BAFTA 195 Piccadilly Head Chef Anton Manganaro. The concept truly enhances the film using taste, aroma and texture to heighten the viewers’ sensory experience of the film’s most famous scenes. Each guest receives a selection of numbered boxes at the start of the film, which they will be instructed to open and enjoy at certain points throughout. The contents of the boxes, and the carefully matched BOMBAY SAPPHIRE cocktails that accompany them, will correspond to the action on screen, offering a multi-sensory cinema experience like no other.
Set in ‘Verona Beach’, Baz Luhrmann’s iconic film catapulted a young Leonardo DiCaprio to international stardom and was praised universally for its modern take on the Shakespearian love story."

When - Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th May at 3pm & 7pm

Where - BAFTA, 195 Piccadilly, London W1J 9LN

Tickets - £37 from Edible Cinema here

Campo Viejo's Streets of Spain Festival including Blend Your Own Wine on the South Bank

Update - It's back for 2015, from 1st - 4th May

Over the May Day bank holiday Campo Viejo is organising the Streets of Span festival on the South Bank, under Queen Elizabeth Hall.  Campo Viejo will be holding special Blend Your Own Wine (BYOW) masterclasses, where you get to keep the bottle you make (see booking links below), and in addition over 40 stallholders coming along to the festival, from La Boqueria in Barcelona as well as a number of UK stallholders.

"A place for you to blend wine. Our wine. That then becomes your wine. Blended.
This class lets you jump into our winemakers’ espadrilles for an hour. Clara and Roberto will introduce you to the three wines that create our Rioja, then you’ll be let loose to blend your own.
Listen to your taste buds; if they shout more fruit, give them more fruit. More earthy tones deftly laced with complex seasoned oak? Hmm, maybe you’ve done this before.
Break the rules and play around. At the end you’ll have your very own bottle. It even has your name on it. Just the thing to brag about to your amigos."

When - Friday 2nd - Monday 5th May
