Supper Club host and frequent popper-upper Sabrina Ghayour is cooking a special Persian New Year meal on 22nd March at The National Gallery as part of Oliver Peyton's Friday Night Socials series.
"After the success of her Persian dinner last year with Oliver Peyton’s ‘Peyton & Byrne’ at The National Gallery, Sabrina Ghayour is the first Chef to have been invited back by Oliver personally to host another dinner.
“I decided to host a very special ‘Persian New Year’ dinner at The National Café to share the food and beautiful traditions of this Persian New Year (year: 1392) with Londoners - which always coincides with the beginning of the Spring Equinox. Persian tradition is something very close to my heart and so interesting that I feel people would want to learn more about.
Persian New Year, or ‘Nowrouz’ as we call it in Farsi, has been celebrated for over 3,000 years and I felt it was time to share a little of the tradition with the good folk and food lovers of London town. I will be setting up a special ‘Haft-sin’ table which is the traditional setting for various symbolic tokens to reflect the new year, with emphasis on prosperity and rebirth.
The food is of course, the major player, with ‘Sabzi Polow Mahi’ (Perfectly steamed herb rice with smoked fish) as the main dish but for this particular feast, I will be preparing a myriad of colourful, flavoursome dishes to satisfy every palate and really show people just how delicious, delicate and versatile Persian cuisine is.”
Tickets cost just £25 per person, including canapés, a drink on arrival and of course dinner and a selection of interesting and affordable wines are also available to choose from. Diners can sit on separate tables or communally as they choose, and for those that want to get involved, there is always ample opportunities to quiz the evening’s hosts and guest speakers, and bounce around ideas with fellow diners.
Oliver comments: “The National Gallery is an amazing space and I wanted to use it to create a convivial experience that unites the best elements of the London dining scene: spectacular food, wine and cocktails, interesting conversation, culture, together with passionate and talented people. Friday Nights Socials are the foodie equivalent of an open-mic night: you never know what might happen and that’s part of the fun.”"
