One of the pleasures of writing this site is highlighting the variety that Londonhas on offer. In the past couple of weeks we've listed Burmese, Portuguese, Chinese, South West Indian and more - and now here's a Russian event from Russian Revels!
Russian Revels are a duo of Karina Baldry, a Muscovite by birth and an author of ‘Russia on a Plate’, and Katrina Kollegaeva, a Food Anthropologist and a blogger with roots in Soviet Estonia.
From cosy suppers in theme with classic Russian literature to dinners with live music and theatre productions, Russian Revels is an exploration of what Russian culture and cuisine in the 21st century.
On 23rd of February they are holding a special manly feast to celebrate the official 'men's day' in Russia.
On 23 February we are collaborating with Rother Valley Organics – a wonderful, lush, organic farm in Sussex – to cook up a mean meat feast using the farm’s amazing pure Aberdeen Angus beef.
Just some current ideas:
~a 30 day matured rib of beef in Karina’s recipe of Bloody Mary marinade
~ Katrina’s Baltic Heart Steak tartar
~ Georgian Lyulya kebab on gigantic spits
~ Finishing with, now famous, Russian-ised cheeseboard of such treats as home-made fresh cheese and buckwheat honey.
Why?
23 February is an official ‘men’s day’ in Russia, a masculine equivalent to the Valentine’s day if you like: boys, dads and granddads get showered with presents, they get pampered, put on a pedestal.
We are all for this celebration of masculinity, every day of the year really, but even nicer to take some time off, put a nice frock on and do it in the company of gals.
They say a path to a man’s heart is through his stomach…
