"Rachel McCormack of Catalan Cooking and radio 4's The Kitchen Cabinet is hosting two calçotades in central London. A traditional Catalan feast from the town of Valls, this involves eating flamed grilled calçots (a cross between a leek and a spring onion), by peeling the carrbonized outer layer, dipping them in romesco sauce and then stuffing them in your mouth. People from Valls insist this requires you to look up to the heavens and is in no way phallic. You may like to make up your own mind.
After the calçots you have various grilled meats with allioli and bread, a crema Catalana and an orange. The people in Valls insist that it's not a proper calçotada until you've had an orange and Rachel wouldn't like to disagree."
