LASSCO supplies the film industry and others with 'architectural antiques' - that is original things that make sets look authentic. They also sell to the public, with a special clearance of some items starting on Saturday 19th. This isn't the sort of thing that I usually cover, but it's of interest because it's been the venue to several pop-ups, including the Cornish Bird Speakeasy.
"From the new Les Miserables film to the latest London pop up, LASSCO have been supplying architectural antiques, salvage and curiosities to those in the know.
This January LASSCO is emptying its warehouse at Ropewalk, Maltby Street, Bermondsey from 10.00am Saturday 19th. Adjacent to the popular Maltby Street Market (a foodie's heaven) it's the perfect place to pick up a bargain.
There'll be up to 90% discounted off the original price .......... From Dolce&Gabbana to Ralph Lauren - Paul Smith to Nandos - All Saints to Jamie Oliver ...... LASSCO has been the best kept source of shabby decoration for edgy designers for forty years.
Relics, reclaimed and redundant - rugs and curtains from Mayfair; bus seats from Routemasters, a church full of chapel chairs, oaken pews, wing armchairs and cabinets from old soldiers's homes, tram benches; lighting from factories and shipbreakers and Moorish kasbahs; rustic pub tables, sgraffiti adorned school lab tops, old floorboards from Back to Backs, Oak beams from ancient barns, shabby shelving and distressed timber of every sort; garden pots, chimney pots and odd pots; chandeliers and appliques from the gentlemen's clubs of St James; fuse boxes and wirework lockers; old Maltese floor tiles, antique smith-made ironwork, 50's film posters; Uncle Monty's Library [ex-Withnail and I] entire; old butler's sinks from stately [and more modest] homes, giant baths and baths for giants, institutional wash hand basins and cold showers - and a great big illuminated SEX sign from a Soho dirty book shop ........... all are to be discounted to clear space for yet more salvage due in this Spring.
LASSCO has never knowingly overpaid [ask any runner or rag-and-bone man!] - and is eager to pass on the benefit to it's discriminating clientele ........ in the interest of an empty warehouse!"
