West Country surf & outdoor brand Finisterre have announced a pop-up shop, opening on Soho on 21st November. You'll be able to get touchy feely with their stuff (normally just available online) and also see a couple of surf films on two evenings, with beer provided by Skinner's Brewery (reservation required - see below)
"As the mercury dips, iconic cold water surf company Finisterre celebrates the coming winter season and their 10th year anniversary with the launch of a pop up shop in the heart of the capital. For 10 days only, from 21st November – 2nd December, 21 Glasshouse Street will host the British brand’s first concept store bringing together the very best of Finisterre’s Autumn/ Winter range with a carefully curated showcase of UK surfing’s most exciting cold water creatives.
The pop up shop is the culmination of a lifetime spent chasing frigid waves and a decade of award winning product innovation. It is a showcase for Finisterre’s celebrated range of tailored insulation jackets, merino base layers, knitwear and their well respected, fjord tested waterproofs. “For ten years we've been building this place and to see a tangible representation of it in London means a lot to me,” says Finisterre Founder Tom Kay speaking from their West Cornwall workshop. “Every product, every story, every face, they will all be a part of those 2 weeks in London and they'll be there in some way, shape or form."
This is no hyperbole. The space on Glasshouse Street has been created by Finisterre Ambassador and record breaking round the world adventurer, James Bowthorpe whose sideline when not out in the wild, is fine wood furniture. The store’s gallery features work from long time collaborators, cold water surf explorers and celebrated creatives including award winning lensemen Al Mackinnon, Mickey Smith, Mark Leary and Tim Nunn and critically acclaimed author Chris Nelson. Indeed it is these, among other cold water pioneers whose stories are woven through the very fabric of Finisterre and the products they create. They constantly push the range to its limits, driven by a desire to seek out those empty waves and uncharted spots that break in deep, frigid fjords and off snow fringed arctic isles. “In everything we do, we believe in looking at things differently, in challenging convention, supporting the rogues and designing beautiful, functional products - the kind that last.”
To celebrate the launch of their pop up shop, Finisterre is hosting two exclusive evenings of surf culture in the capital, with drinks courtesy of the award winning Skinners Brewery. Tickets are free but numbers are extremely limited. To reserve your place, please call the workshop on 01872 554 481.
Wednesday 21st November, 8pm: Grand Opening – Finisterre Founder Tom Kay talks about the trials and tribulations of building a cold water surf company and hints at its future. Accompanied by gallery launch featuring leading lensemen including Mickey Smith, Tim Nunn, Mark Leary and Al Mackinnon.
