Nando's Pop-up Peri-Peri GigNic in Soho Square - NOW FINISHED

This one happens today - it's a bit of a shame they didn't give people more notice (although I guess that's the point - keep it spontaneous).  Anyway, if you're near Soho Square then head over.  Note - the music is free, but the chicken isn't...

Apparently this will the the first of many - so if Nando's read this please send advanced notice for the next one.  Yes, I will obey embargoes!

Dante Fried Chicken Pop-up Taco Shack in Shoreditch - NOW FINISHED

For 3 days only Dante Gonzales is opening a Taco shack at a space in Shoreditch, arranged by Protein.

"The taco shack will be set up in honour of Danteʼs up and coming LA-shack in Silverlake. Longtime friend of Protein, Dante's known for everything from his web show (which kicked off with artists such as Santigold, Mos Def and CocoRosie) to his award winning Ride or Fry food truck which he cruises around the States. You may also remember when Dante was thrown headfirst into the madness of Notting Hill Carnival, where he fed over 2000 hungry and incredibly grateful Notting Hill Carnival goers at the Red Bull party we helped throw a while back.
Chef DFC was influenced by Mexican food as a kid growing up in LA eating his grandmotherʼs infamous Mofongo Gumbo Tamales and sopas. After the success of his award-winning Ride or Fry LA food truck serving up his signature Transatlantic African cuisine of Cajun-inspired soul food with Asian, Latin and European influences, he now unveils his next concept, creating Mexican street food with a soul food and ultimate Dante Fried Chicken twist."

Front-Up Rugby Pop-up Shop in Covent Garden - NOW FINISHED

To mark the Rugby World Cup, sportswear Front-Up Rugby have launched a pop-up shop in Long Acre.  They're also holding special events and signings in-store.

"Usually, Front Up is only exclusive to our online needs, which is why we are so thrilled that it’s now coming to the high street.
For those unaware, the brand was initially set up in 2008 to fill a gap in the market for young males between the ages of eighteen to 30, who have a desire to wear sportswear that is both fashionable and takes influence from the game of rugby. Now, with the seventh Rugby World Cup approaching, Front Up wants to get us suited and booted for the occasion. In doing so, to mark the launch of the pop up store, they are launching their new Rugby World Cup (RWC) collection, which is where it will be exclusively available."

Ocado Virtual Pop-up Store in St Paul's - NOW FINISHED

Ocado, the grocery home delivery company, are setting up a virtual store at One New Change in St Paul's.  The store will have pictures of popular products on the windows, with bar codes underneath.  Shoppers can order these on their phones, using the Ocado on the Go app, for delivery later.

The idea comes from this campaign for Tesco in South Korea, where they created billboards on the Metro that looked like real stores.  This campaign won the media Grand Prix at the Cannes advertising festival this year.

"The shop will be a printed window display featuring some of our most popular items. Barcodes underneath will let you scan the items and drop them into your basket on the app. Then you simply book a delivery and get on with your day.
The office is buzzing with excitement to see the wallpaper go up, and to take the meaning of window shopping to a whole new level!"

Coffee Saturday Pop-up Biscotti Bake-Off in Tottenham Court Road - NOW FINISHED

Daniel Young, of Young and Foodish organises lots of pop-up events - for example his legendary Burger Mondays (one of the inspirations for this blog).  I don't list the Burger Mondays on here, because they're always sold out within hours or minutes, but this new event will probably take longer to sell out.  I went to one of these bake-offs earlier in the year and it was excellent - you get great coffee & great biscotti, and you meet really friendly group of people.

"Join me, Tapped and Packed managing director Richard Lilley and fellow friends of young&foodish for great coffee and an Italian biscotti bake-off at the enchanting new Tapped and Packed coffee shop on Tottenham Court Road, near the Warren Street tube.
This, the second CoffeeSaturday pop-up, meets at No.114, as the coffee shop is identified, on the 3rd of September, anytime between 10:30am and 2:30pm.
The £5 ticket price includes an expertly prepared coffee of your choice, either a single-origin coffee brewed with a Hario V60 dripper or a Has Bean custom espresso (espresso, flat white or latte), and a tasting of Italian biscotti baked by me and a few other worthy competitors."

When - Saturday 3rd September 10.30am - 2.30pm

Swear Pop-up Shop in Shoreditch

It's been pretty hard finding details on this one, but footwear company Swear are marking their 10 year anniversary with The 10 Space, a pop-up shop in one of the buildings around the Old Truman Brewery.

"Swear is a footwear brand created in London by entrepeneur Jose Neves. In 2000 Jose and brand manager Jorge Sampaio wanted to create a crossover shoe for a crossover generation. Tired of going to gigs and seeing cool young people wearing a mix of converse and vintage boots with their skinny jeans, they set out to design a sneaker-classic shoe hybrid that would look cool with tight jeans and t-shirt, a bold and minimal look of the early 00's, taken to the streets by garage rock revival bands such as The Strokes, White Stripes or The Hives.
Indeed, since its frantic inception Swear attracted the eye of a music and fashion forward crowd. Many indie artists and musicians have been spotted wearing Swear shoes. Among these, guys in such diverse acts such as Radiohead, Franz Ferdinand, Kings of Leon, Muse, Nouvelle Vague, The Teenagers, iliketrains, The Horrors, Bloc Party, Foals, Amazing Baby, The Big Pink, Queens of the Stone Age, Liars ... we say they all felt the noise of Swear."

French Laundrette Pop-up Supper Club at The Chancery London

On hearing the news that The French Laundry is holding a pop-up in Harrods, at £250 a head, Sabrina Ghayour decided to launch a French Laundrette supper club for one night, at 1% of the cost.

"“The idea is that I will charge diners 1 percent of the cost of Thomas Keller’s pop-up and deliver a carefully created four course menu with a very humble price tag of just £2.50 per person, allowing anyone and everyone to be a part of the evening. Within minutes, the news spread like wild fire on Twitter and people were tweeting and emailing, and wanting to take part by either dining, contributing ingredients or cooking on the night - and so it became a reality. The final detail was venue, and Zak Jones of The Chancery London offered his restaurant to me for the event.  Suddenly, paired with our team of willing kitchen and front of house volunteers from Twitter, the French Launderette Supper Club is ready to go.
“The menu will draw inspiration, in parts, from some of Keller’s most famous signature dishes.  More importantly, it will serve four courses of lovingly prepared food to diners using ingredients which will be sourced, donated and generated with help from Twitter and other foodie friends."

When - Sunday 2nd October

Where - The Chancery London, 9 Cursitor Street, City of London EC4A 1LL

Broadway Market Taste Sessions at The Rebel Dining Society - NOW FINISHED

The Rebel Dining Society organise events and dinners at their base in Bethnal Green.  I recently went to one of their Absinthe nights, and it was absolutely fantastic - great food, great drink, and brilliant people.  In face it was one of the inspirations for this site.  I wanted to be able to write about pop-ups and unusual events in London.

Their new event is a series of 4 Sunday lunches, using produce from the Broadway Market.  Each costs £30 per person, to be pre-booked, and comes highly recommended.

The French Laundry Pop-up Restaurant in Harrods

This October Thomas Keller's American restaurant The French Laundry will be opening a pop-up at Harrods for 10 days.

"But this isn’t just any pop-up or a random dinner series. Keller is bringing his flagship brand to Europe.
The temporary restaurant is going to be named “The French Laundry at Harrods” and it will aim to be a replica of the original Yountville destination, right down to the flown-in fixtures, fittings, and dinnerware — and over a dozen French Laundry staffers.
The London version will serve a nine-course, £250 (~$411) menu that will feature many of the French Laundry signatures, plus some new dishes made for the occasions. They’ll do 70 covers at lunch and dinner, and the English version of the French Laundry will be located in Harrods’ fourth floor restaurant, The Georgian. And of course, Keller will be on hand running the show, naturally."

When - 1st - 10th October

Where - Harrods, 87-135 Brompton Road, Knightsbridge, Greater London SW1X 7XL
