The Budapest Bar & Kitchen is a new 3 month pop-up from the Italian & Hungarian team behind Pasta 'n' Goulash, opening on Wednesday 4th October 2017, and then open every Tuesday to Saturday til 22nd December, and on New Year's Eve. Expect lots of Italian and Hungarian dishes, plus some exclusively sourced beers and wines. Perfect food for when it starts to get a bit colder!
"The Pasta ‘n’ Goulash team is excited to announce the return of The Budapest Bar & Kitchen under the railway arches of Cambridge Heath Overground Station. Except this time we will be making this our home for the next three months!
The Budapest Bar & Kitchen returns to London in order to celebrate the neon-lit ruin pub nightlife of the Hungarian capital. Expect traditional Hungarian flavours in forms of sharing plates along with wines, spirits and craft beers from all around Europe. This will be enjoyed alongside art exhibitions and Saturday night live music. The pop-up will be hosted in two railway arches boasting vintage furniture, brick walls, lots of re-purposed items and a beer garden.
The Budapest Bar and Kitchen has a unique approach to Hungarian food: take the country’s favourite comfort food dishes and transform them into simple, yet creative small plates. Co-owner and self-taught chef, Tamás Sápi, wants to encourage his guests to forget about the excessively portioned, rather heavy Hungarian dishes and instead try to focus on discovering new heart-warming flavours in forms of sharing plates.
The menu will be meat-centric, well-rounded and ever-evolving: think small plates such as the Urban Goulash or the vegan Goulash soup in bread bowl, the Vörösboros Marhapörkölt (beef stew in red wine), Rántott Savanyúság (fried pickles), the Körözött (home-made Liptauer cheese spread), the Full Magyar (cheese and charcuterie platter with 2 shots of Pálinka brandy to start with), the Hurka-Kolbász (spicy hand-made sausage and blood sausage with mustard and fresh white bread) and also mind-blowing winter specialities like Töltött Káposzta (stuffed cabbage rolls). Most of these dishes have dozens of variationsacross the country and the culinary team aims to feature one of each every month: just think about the Babgulyás (bean goulash) or the Székelykáposzta (beef stew with cabbage and sour cream).
The bar will focus on an exquisite selection of bottled beers from all over Europe, along with some tasty seasonal drafts. The beer menu (named European Brewnion) unites new-wave breweries from all over mainland Europe and the UK – the result is a rotational selection of 12 beers, ranging from classic Hungarian lagers to seasonal craft specialities. As per the wines, Hungarian and Italian classics will surely satisfy all the vino lovers, with bottles from regions of Tokaj, Eger, Villany and all over the Italy – most wines will be available by the glass too. Expect plenty of spirits: the team will encourage all guests to warm-up for the evening like a good Hungarian and sip a bit of the quality fruit brandy, called Pálinka.
Exactly how a proper Budapest ruin pub would do, The Budapest Bar & Kitchen is embracingthe food and booze with a good load of culture. Rotating art exhibitions from the talented UWL art students will pleasure those who are keen to infuse their experience with contemporary art. The pop-ups calendar will also feature Saturday-night live performancesunder the arches of Cambridge Heath overground station."
