The Chinese Laundry Room is a a restaurant on Upper Street Islington, which unfortunately was damaged by a fire at the end of February. While they are closed (re-opening in May), they miss their kitchen, so are holding a dinner at the Pacific Social Club in Clarence Road, E5, on Thursday the 30th of March, for new and existing customers. It will feature some dishes they had on the menu at the restaurant, plus some new ones just for this night. There is no booking - just turn up hungry! I love this use of a pop-up!
The Chinese Laundry reinvents our perception of Chinese cuisine. Peiran and Tongtong are paying homepage to dishes best remembered from their childhoods. Both were heavily involved in food from a young age; Peiran grew up in a coastal town in Northeast China and was taught by her father to fish and forage ingredients. Such lessons led to her firm understanding of the importance of fresh, locally sourced produce. Whilst Tongtong was taught traditional Chinese cooking skills by her parents. Combined with Tongtong’s interest in preserving food via curing, smoking, pickling and fermenting methods, this has allowed the duo to create a menu using the best of British ingredients, while bringing originality to the London dining scene."
When - Thursday 30th March 2017, 6pm - 10.30pm
Where - Pacific Social Club, 8 Clarence Road, E5 8HB
