John Lewis' rooftop pop-up The Gardening Society, on top of their Oxford Street store, is re-opening for the winter, with food from Mac & Wild (see pic), cozy lodges and ourdoor picnic tables to dine in, a winter forest, a great bar with hot and cold cocktails, and much more. It's open from Monday 7th November until Friday 30th December (times vary - full details below - essentially the same times as the store), with lots of great views of the city and the Christmas lights.
"Following the success of its summer residencies, John Lewis will transform its Oxford Street rooftop, The Gardening Society, into a festive and immersive forest for the festive season.
Highlights include:
• A popup restaurant from game experts Mac & Wild set in the midst of a winter forest
• Three cosy private dining lodges with “hot toddy bells”, board games and individual sound systems
• THE Lodge, the ultimate rooftop dining experience that seats 8 and includes chefs-style table service
• Outdoor picnic tables where you can indulge in a warming mulled spiced Negroni cocktail
• Real Christmas trees for sale for those wishing to take some of the forest home with them from 1st December
• Last but not least, all within a setting of the a spectacular panoramic view of the world-famous Oxford Street Christmas lights
Christmas Burgers & Mulled Spice Negronis
Bringing highly seasonal British fare, Mac & Wild has created a menu of hearty, highland-style dishes exclusive to the rooftop, peppered with a few favourites from its permanent site on Great Titchfield Street. Dishes include a new and exclusive John Lewis Christmas burger featuring a demi brioche bun, fried confit turkey leg, venison stuffing, brie, cranberry, and truffled bread sauce. And, no Mac & Wild restaurant would be complete without its award-winning burger (London’s Best Burger 2016, National Burger Awards) the ‘Veni-Moo’, which comprises both a beef patty and a venison patty with cheese, bĂ©arnaise and caramelised onions in a sweet brioche bun.
Pop-up experts Background Bars will once again run the drinks offering with festive and warming cocktails from a homemade pine liqueur to a burnt lemon, gin and blackberry fizz, smoked fig and Scotch whisky sour and a mulled 8-spice Negroni, sure to be a popular alternative to the traditional mulled wine.
The roof will open on Monday 7th November until Friday 30th December. Bookings for lodges and the restaurant will
go live on Monday 31st October, with spaces reserved for walk-ins too."
