Le Bun's 'Le Bun Vivant' 5 Week Pop-up at Leicester House in Chinatown

Le Bun, street food favourites who serve up French and American-inspired flavours, often in buns, are taking over the restaurant and bar at Leicester House, the boutique hotel at 1 Leicester Street, Chinatown, for 5 weeks serving Wednesday - Sunday from 21st April.  Called Le Bun Vivant, it'll include new dishes like Shrimp & Scallop Po Bun, inspired by New Orleans, and Suckling Pig Bun, inspired by Lyon.  This one is walk-ins only, so pick a good time - I'd particularly recommend an early weekend brunch.

"On 21st April, Le Bun will be taking over the restaurant and bar at the recently refurbished Leicester House hotel in China Town for a five-week residency ‘Le Bun Vivant’, re-imagining classic American and French dishes and giving them their signature luxurious diner treatment. Le Bun will transform the space into their very own neon-filled ‘Fine Diner’.
Le Bun founders, Andy Taylor and Tim Talbot spent the last three months road tripping across France and North America researching new dishes. During the trip, Andy and Tim travelled to the birthplaces of iconic dishes, such as Bourguignon in Burgundy, Cheesesteaks in Philadelphia and Hot Chicken in Nashville; sampling variations of the dishes and gaining insights from locals and professional chefs to form a deep understanding of what made each dish so special.
‘Le Bun Vivant’ is the duo’s homage to French and American indulgence and excess, and they cannot wait to bring their interpretations of dishes from these two culinary capitals to London.
During the evenings, Le Bun will serve a rotating list of specials, that will include:
Shrimp & Scallop Po Bun // New Orleans
Inspired by Po Boy sandwiches found in New Orleans, in particular those served at the back of Verti Marte, a tiny grocery store in the French quarter. Le Bun’s Po Bun will include shrimp and scallops basted with an indulgent shellfish bisque.
Suckling Pig Bun // Lyon
Inspired by the bouchon’s of Lyon, Le Bun’s Suckling Pig Bun nods to the offal heavy, classic, Lyonnaise style of cooking with Pulled Pig Shin, Charcuterie Jam and Trotter Hollandaise served in a Brioche Bun
Hot Chicken // Nashville
Inspired by a recipe from renowned American chef Thomas Keller, Le Bun’s Hot Chicken also pays homage to the famous Hattie B's, the legendary Nashville Hot Chicken shop with Fried Chipotle Chicken Thigh doused in Nashville Hot Butter.
Foie Gras Beignets // New Orleans
The Franco-American melting pot which made New Orleans so famous for its food is evident in the Foie Gras Beignets which showcase the American love affair of balancing sweet and savoury.
Fans of Le Bun will be pleased to hear that their classic buns including Le Bourguignon Bun, Le Duck Frites Bun and the Truffle Double Double will be available at lunch as well as dinner.
Continuing the French American theme, a new cocktail list inspired by the boys’ trip will feature drinks such as: Smoked Noisette Old Fashioned, Tarte Tatin Moonshine and Calvados Jell-O Shots.
At weekends, diners can look forward to a special brunch menu with the option of bottomless Mimosas for an additional £20. Classic Le Bun brunch dishes such as the Truffles ‘n’ Waffles and Le Benedict Bun will be served alongside new dishes inspired by the trip.
After a hugely successful residency at The Zetter Hotel in Clerkenwell at the end of 2015 where they served over 10,000 guests during a five-week period, the team are excited to bring their unique approach of re-interpreting dishes and putting their inimitablle Le Bun twist on well loved classics to China Town.
‘Le Bun Vivant’ will be walk in only."
