Papi's Pickles, who serve amazing South Indian food, are taking over Thursday and Friday nights at The Lido Cafe in Herne Hill, SE14, for March 2016. Papi's have been around for a couple of years and are always a treat. This time they're serving both dosas (see above) and their tiffin - for example Ski Lankan mutton rolls, and pastry chaat bowls - in the Lido Cafe. This one is going to be very popular!
"Starting on Thursday 10th March and running for four weeks on Thursday and Friday evenings, well-respected family-run food social enterprise Papi’s Pickles will transform The Lido Cafe’s stylish Art Deco restaurant into a vibrant Tiffin and Dosa Bar. The March dinner collaboration with the rising streetfood stars promises guests the chance to enjoy traditional South Indian delicacies in this unique setting in the heart of South London.
The Lido Cafe’s upcoming popup by Papi’s Pickles will showcase a brand new menu based on time-honoured handwritten recipes. Dinner guests can feast on a selection of Tiffin light bites ideal for sharing, such as tender Sri Lankan Mutton Rolls with tangy burnt garlic and mint chutney; mouth-watering Masala Baby Aubergines stuffed with ginger, coconut and tamarind; and irresistible Edible Pastry Chaat Bowls with their signature Seeni Sambal onion chutney. The poolside Dosa Bar will celebrate the classic delicate South Indian fermented rice and black lentil crepe, serving Masal dosas with fillings including slow-cooked free-range chicken and sautéed fresh Cornish cod; and vegetarian Mysore dosas filled with grated paneer cheese; all accompanied by rich sambar, delightful coconut rice and the team’s famous fresh seasonal pickles.
Since the sell-out success of their first event almost two years ago, Papi's Pickles have become well-known on London’s popup and streetfood scene for their delicious authentic South Indian and Sri Lankan food and tantalising fresh pickles, made using the best locally sourced seasonal and organic ingredients. A family-run social enterprise and London Living Wage employer, the team reinvest all of their profits in providing employment opportunities for women from these communities whose lives were destroyed during the conflict in Sri Lanka that ended violently in 2009."
