"The Queen of Hoxton is bringing this year’s top food trend to the east end after a flurry of Caribbean restaurant openings in London over the last few months. In the lead up to the 52nd Jamaican Independence Day, we invite four of London’s hottest (excuse the pun!) jerk vendors to battle it out in an epic, all-day chicken Jerk Off on our rooftop. Hosted by Normski, known for hosting the outlandish TV show, Dance Energy back in the 80’s he’ll be doing his thing live on Hoxton FM from Jerk Off. Those taking part include; Notting Hill's Boom Burger, Brixton Village’s Fish, Wings & Tings, Mama’s Jerk Station and White Men Can’t Jerk. Just one of them, chosen by our guests on the day, will be crowned the Jerk Off champion 2014!
Can you handle the heat? Prep your taste buds for jerk chicken of the highest order that will blow your brains out! Jamaican, Trinidadian and London flavours will all be represented, as each ‘jerker’ brings their unique seasoning, rubs, marinades and cooking styles to the rooftop to wow the crowds. Once the winner has been announced and you’ve had your fill of chicken, head to the ground floor to dance the night away with Hoxton FM DJs.
Competitors:
Boom Burger
Raised in Montego Bay, Josh de Lisser blends inspiration from his Auntie Sharon with the food trends of London. The outcome is loud, proud Jamaican flavours served up in his Portobello Road restaurant.
Fish, Wings & Tings
Located in Brixton Village, the restaurant’s aim is to introduce a dynamic, eclectic mix of Trinidadian fare, taking the regional and street food turning it into a trendy and delightful selection of nouvelle cooking.
Mama’s Jerk Station
Mama Charlotte grew the fresh ingredients on her farm in Jamaica to create her own jerk recipe which is now famed on the Mama’s Jerk Station stall found in food markets across London.
White Men Can’t Jerk
Other than scoring a great pun name, these three friends are all about mixing it up. They combine unlikely jerk dishes (think Jerk Halloumi) with cool surroundings and DJs."
