Edible Cinema is back - and in a bigger space so more people can enjoy it. Edible Cinema is a unique experience blending food, drinks and films. As you arrive you've given a tray with numbered packages. At certain points in the film a number flashes up, telling you it;s time to eat or drink that particular item. It's previously been in smaller places like the Aubin Cinema or the Electrc, but now it's at Bafta at 195 Piccadilly, with 4 performances over the May Day weekend, so more people can enjoy it. The film this time is Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet - get involved!
"This May, Edible Cinema and BOMBAY SAPPHIRE® will once again team up for screenings of Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet at BAFTA 195 Piccadilly, the prestigious West End home of the British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA). Due to the phenomenal success of previous screenings, Edible Cinema will be shown for the first time at the renowned BAFTA venue, as it moves from the Electric Cinema on Portobello Road.
Guests will be treated to an edible adventure through the film, where experiences will range from a ‘tongue sandwich’ as Romeo and Juliet share their first kiss, to a mini vial of ‘poison’ as the film reaches it’s epic climax. As guests take their seats, the divided room will become apparent with one side Capulets and the other Montagues. Each side will receive different cocktails, inspired by the two families. While the “Capulet” combines BOMBAY SAPPHIRE, lime, pineapple and orange juice, cherry heering and angostura bitters; the “Montague” combines BOMBAY SAPPHIRE, lemon juice, orgeat syrup, orange flower water and soda. Both drinks have similar citrus notes highlighting the fact that although the families have their differences at their heart they are the same.
The first of its kind, Edible Cinema is a collaboration between Soho House chef Jake Rigby Wilson, Soho House events manager Zoe Paterson, renowned experience organiser Polly Betton, BOMBAY SAPPHIRE mixologist Sean Ware, who are all joined by BAFTA 195 Piccadilly Head Chef Anton Manganaro. The concept truly enhances the film using taste, aroma and texture to heighten the viewers’ sensory experience of the film’s most famous scenes. Each guest receives a selection of numbered boxes at the start of the film, which they will be instructed to open and enjoy at certain points throughout. The contents of the boxes, and the carefully matched BOMBAY SAPPHIRE cocktails that accompany them, will correspond to the action on screen, offering a multi-sensory cinema experience like no other.
Set in ‘Verona Beach’, Baz Luhrmann’s iconic film catapulted a young Leonardo DiCaprio to international stardom and was praised universally for its modern take on the Shakespearian love story."
