Dine With Kyi Burmese Supper Club in Walthamstow

This April a Burmese supper club is taking place in Walthamstow to introduce diners to the delights of Burmese food, and to raise money for a Burmese mental health charity.  Diners meet at Walthamstow station, and will then be taken to a transformed underground railway carriage, set in a mock-up of the Burmese jungle.  From 24th - 26th April.

"Normally, eating a curry on the tube will earn you a few unappreciative glances, but not here. Dine with Kyi (pronounced ‘Chi’) have teamed up with World in London to host their maiden supper club, Burma Underground, in a decommissioned Victoria Line carriage in Walthamstow in April 2014.
Diners are asked to meet at Walthamstow Central tube station, where they will be transported in style to the secret location; a transformed underground carriage in a Burmese jungle, a bit like the missing spitfires in Burma.
Burma’s geographic location, bordering India, China and Thailand, has heavily influenced Burmese cuisine, resulting in unique and tasty dishes. In her menu, chef Thuzar Kyi, pays homage to her late mother by serving the traditional home-cooked Burmese food that she grew up with.
Coinciding with the Water Festival, Thingyan, which precedes the Burmese New Year, Burma Underground will be celebrating in style with a delicious five-course tasting menu of traditional Burmese food, music, performances and, of course, a water fight for those who wish to partake and get splash happy. There will also be a fully stocked bar serving soft drinks, beers and specially designed cocktails using South East Asian flavours to match each dish. In keeping with Burmese culture, communal tables will encourage guests to share a meal and conversation, and to make new friends."
