I love this - a pop-up shop / workshop where you can buy things for other people, but not yourself. From 13th - 18th December Kids Company will be printing toys in Windmill Street (Off Charlotte Street), to give to kids who would otherwise have nothing to open on Christmas day. You can visit and pay by text, and also get involved online - so please support this!
"Kids Company, the award-winning charity for vulnerable children and young people, believes that no child should wake up on Christmas Day without a present, but sadly that is the reality thousands of children face across London every year.
Open to all from Friday 13th to Wednesday 18th December ‘Print Happiness’ will, with the help of donations from the public, create toys for Kids Company children who would otherwise not have anything to unwrap on Christmas Day.
Six state-of-the-art Ultimaker 3D printers will create the toys live at the bustling Soho site in London. To print a toy, members of the public simply need to make a text donation of £5 to a specific number, and select the toy design of their choice.
There will be six toy designs to choose from. World-famous animators Aardman, the people behind the nation’s much-loved Wallace and Gromit characters, have lent their support to the cause and have created two exclusive and limited edition toy designs. Further special designs have been specially created by renowned design companies Tado and Triclops, and one of Ultimaker’s own designs will also feature.
Donations can be made in person at the store or remotely via a live stream link on the website: Printhappiness.co.uk. We’ll be encouraging the public to spread the word about the activity using the hashtag #Printhappiness on Twitter and Instagram. After donating, donors can simply watch as the machines create the toy they’ve chosen."
