33 Pop-up is a new venture from Howard & Emmanuel, who want to bring the flavours of France to London. It's in Dalston from Friday 29th Nov to Sunday 1st Dec, with 4 sittings - 3 dinners and lunch on Sunday.
"'33' will be popping up in Dalston this month bringing classic food from France's most indulgent region to Hackney's hungry hoards.
For it's first outing, 33 will feature a set price menu with one sitting each night, transforming Cafe Bliss, 9 Dalston Lane, into a little corner of the Gironde. The menu's highlight is Magret de Canard (grilled duck breast) a regional classic which was voted France's favourite meal in 2013. Oysters and salt cod appetisers bring the tastes of the area's Atlantic coastline, and indulgent desserts from residents pastry chef Helen A round off the night. The Bordeaux region also produces just a bit of wine, so the fixed price of £35 includes a half bottle.
As well as showcasing the region's food, 33 is driven by the sense of occasion and conviviality which French eating culture is all about. Howard and Emmanuel, the 33 boys, explain:
Emmanuel - "My family is from Bordeaux, and for years the English friends I've taken there have been blown away by the amazing food. It's about time Londoners were reminded French restaurants aren't all about michelin stars and rude waiters in Mayfair. When you arrive at your table at 33 there'll be a bottle for you to crack into straight away, and since we're only taking reservations for one sitting each night you can relax and enjoy your evening."
Howard - "Most of us have been on one of those trips to France where you spend most of the time eating, drinking and laughing with friends. That's the atmosphere we're recreating at 33. Conviviality, and that rich delicious 'Sud Ouest' food that's famous i France and perfect for a cold London winter night.""
