There's quite a bit of notice for this one - it's at the end of October, and the booking opens on 1st September - but it sounds fantastic. I've eaten at The Spotted Pig in New York, and if this brings a bit of that to London for a couple of days then I'm all for it. It's also a fantastic way to launch a book - other publishers take note!
"April Bloomfield will return to the UK this October for a two-day residency at St John Chinatown, to coincide with the UK publication of her acclaimed cookbook A Girl and Her Pig.
April will be working alongside Fergus Henderson of St John to create her menus, and will cook two lunches and two dinners over the course of 30th and 31st October.
April Bloomfield is Executive Chef and co-owner of three of New York’s most renowned restaurants – The Spotted Pig, The Breslin, and The John Dory Oyster Bar - and holds two Michelin stars (one each at the Spotted Pig and The Breslin). This Midlands girl began her career in Birmingham before moving to London, where she worked at Kensington Place, Bibendum, and the Brackenbury. From there, April went on to work at the River CafĂ©, before spending the summer of 2003 in California at the legendary Chez Panisse. In February 2004, April and co-owner Ken Friedman opened the Spotted Pig to much acclaim, bringing America its first taste of the British gastropub movement. The pair opened The Breslin in late 2009 and The John Dory Oyster Bar in November 2010.
April’s residency mirrors Fergus Henderson’s regular visits to New York. Over the past four years, ‘Fergustock’ has seen the St John co-founder bring his signature dishes to April’s NYC restaurants, a reflection of the two chefs’ mutual admiration and inspiration."
