"The Book Club is extremely excited to announce its takeover of the large outdoor car park on Leonard Street for a seventeen-day fun-filled hub during the most exciting sporting activity the city has ever seen. Welcome to The Book Club Base Camp!
This much-loved east end hangout will host a pop-up outdoor bar, lots of social-sporting silliness, plus all-day screenings of the athletic action, as it happens.
Designed especially for this event, you can expect a quirky take on all things sporty; giant topiary shapes, a paddling pool, neon light-installations, miles of bunting with all the essentials under the ‘Club House’; a huge stretch tent, just in case it rains! And it just wouldn’t be The Book Club without some local artists giving it all a twist. Live graffiti art will be set against a raw concrete backdrop, just another interesting feature livening up proceedings.
There will be lashings of cider, real ales from London Fields Brewery, ice-cold beers, frozen cocktails and Pimms with trims, as well as great coffee and fresh juices. We’ll have hearty, British, sustainably-sourced grub from culinary giants Street Kitchen, known London-wide for their deliciously simple menus, cooked and prepared in their shiny airstream. Their tasty bistro lunches such as Crispy chicken with warm crushed potatoes, pickled red onions, bacon, croutons, soft lettuce and Winchy mayo will be a sure fire hit. Join us in the evenings and you'll be treated to their top-class burger menu.
Come down and get involved in some silly sports hosted by The Social Athletics Club. There will be energetic rounds of King Pong from World Series of Pong, or if team sport is more your thing, compete in motley crews to play beer pong, basketball or croquet to become the Ultimate Social Athlete. Drinking highly recommended, sweat-bands mandatory, talent optional!
The Book Club Basecamp will be a whole new alfresco hub, bang in the middle of Shoreditch. Good old team Blighty will be firmly at centre stage and we hope you’ll come and share the highs and the lows and cheer along with us. And, it’s FREE!!"
