Update - the 2012 Chilli Stand Off is happening in Hackney on 17th November
This is a one day chilli cook-off, taking place in Shoreditch, and it sounds amazing. Great food, cooked by a diverse range of pro-am chefs, and some great drink and music to accompany it. The 8 teams are competing for the Oakheart Trophy:
"The competitors include Chilango, Leon, The Fat Duck, Lucky Chip, Gizzi Erskine, All Star Lanes, Dock Kitchen and Carl Clarke of Disco Bistro. All of the Chillies will be tasted blind and everyone attending gets to vote for their favourite.
Bartenders from Milk & Honey and Danger of Death will provide the drinks from their festival bar. There will be free rum and lots of it including the brand new spicy Bacardi Oakheart and a giant barrel of Oakheart Grog.
The bar will be open from noon until 10pm and the Chilli tasting will take place between 1-4pm with the winner announced by 6pm. After party nearby.
In the evening we've got fantastic street food from some of London's hottest operators including pillow-soft, pork-filled steamed buns from Lisa at Yum Bun, the 'best ribs in London' and hot sauce from Mark The Rib Man, spicy fish tacos from Simon at Luardos and spectacular meatballs and linguine from Jez at The Bowler.
